[He hadn't exactly paid much attention to their departure, beyond that it happened. He'd been disappointed to hear Zack was gone, but he'd just assumed they'd been spirited away by the city, like Tseng and Elena had been. Was Zexion saying they willingly left, together? Just went off into the wasteland together? And was he really more angry about the fact that they were together than the fact that they'd willingly gone off for a likely wasteland suicide?]
[The way Sephiroth had been so supportive of the city, and still so controlling over Genesis when Zack would have done anything for him... Reno just never saw him leaving that way.]
You think all the contingency plans for Club Masamune was accidental?
Or maybe they've been conscripted by the city to leave and make contact with an elsewhere- who knows? I wonder where Xehanort and my Superior and Xigbar and all the other wound up too.
Maybe I'm just the only one cowardly enough to be left inside the walls, or comfortable enough to stay.
[Because that meant that Tseng, Elena, Rude -- Abel -- they were all still out there somewhere. It didn't make any sense.]
Of course there's contingency plans when people disappear all the time, you have to! An' Masamune's huge, they'd -- they'd have to have a plan, or the whole fuckin' thing would fall apart, just like Mala Suerte!
[Was he bitter about that? Maybe a little. People were depending on that place, people like him and Sheena and Malik, and then it was all just gone and they had nothing. He was lucky he had Rapier to fall back on entirely, and he'd done what he could for the others.]
If people who disappeared had just left t' go outside, then why would I be back?
[He had heard he'd been here before, after all, but he couldn't remember it.]
[ Zexion admits flatly- and that was mostly because Genesis didn't want to think that far along the possibility of vanishing. Neither did he, to be frank, not enough to press the issue. ]
I... I... don't pretend to know? [ His voice thins with anxiety, and he peeks over his shoulder toward the closed door to his hospital room, to make sure no one's listening in, but lowers his voice to a furtive whisper anyway.] Maybe you found yourself in so much trouble they decided to take you in, remove some memories, and play it all over from the start again?
Edmund and Nico were out there for a few days before, dodging the feelings the chip was pressing on them. Not long after, Nico went in, presumeably for being too exclusive.
Ai? He swears up and down in those few days he was absent from work, he went home for a whole year.
It's... strange, inconsistent, the coming and going, for all we're told it's one way in, and no way home.
[He hated to say it, because it sounded weak. But if Rapier disappeared, too, he wouldn't know what to do.]
[He scoffed.] You know me -- you think I wouldn't get into trouble again? Especially without memories?
[If that was the city's plan, it was a stupid one. If he was troublesome, it would have been simpler to just kill him outright. If they could change his memories, they might as well have just implanted what they wanted into a clone body and made him their little puppet. They had the technology, surely. That in mind, it seemed extremely unlikely.]
Why they lie seems clear enough -- they need us, don't they? I mean, it won't be long before we're the majority here. We build their roads, their buildings, we run their businesses. How many "natives" weren't just like us before? An' everythin' is kept dark so people like us don't get enough juice t' really make problems.
Are we a majority? It's unclear, how many natives are really native- but it would appear that we are in fact a select, privileged minority. Those of us from other worlds seems to cling tightly together.
[ Still, it's well worth thinking about, while his head's not so lust fogged and he can stop to consider. ] ...Well, that also implies that the truth is something so sinister it requires concealment.
It's ... Sorry, hold on-
[ Another interruption from the nursing staff, and Zexion shuts off the message for a few more minutes, quietly incensed when he returns.]
Reno? [ Zexion groans wearily. ] They say I'm drying up. We'll see how long that lasts
[He cut himself off and waited. And waited. Even though it was just for a few minutes, the silence made him antsy, not knowing what was going on on the other side of it. He was instantly relieved to hear Zexion's voice again.]
So maybe you'll be good to leave tomorrow? [He asked hopefully. Never once had he felt like he was "drying up" between spells, not really. So if that's what the doctors and nurses were saying, then that was a distinct difference -- right? That meant that things were finally going back to normal.]
[ He sounds hopeful, a little exhausted. ] If the gossip between nurses is any indication, they're almost full up on beds, so... I suspect they'll want to shoo me out quickly as possible, if it's looking any better.
I... should probably let you sleep, or get back to... getting off, or whatever you've been up to.

What's that supposed t' mean?

The real question is why!

[It sounded more like Zexion needed to rest. Reno took the hint.]
Yeah. Okay.
But you call me any time if you want, okay?
